Latest information has it that fresh wrangles have risen amongst Kenya Kwanza leaders over the Cabinet slots in Nyanza region.
Okoth Obado vs Eliud Owallo
Two disagreeing parties, one led by Eliud Owallo and another by former Migori governor Okoth Obado are at the center of this hustle for CS slots.
The two camps are bargaining for either of the leaders to be appointed to the Cabinet.
On the 22nd of September 2022, the team allied to Okoth Obado held a press conference in Kisumu where they claimed that Owallo’s side was sidelining them in matters relating to politics and cabinet appointments.
The team, led by John Odenyo, claimed that the bandwagon led by Owalo was making it hard for them to be part of the ‘dining table’ yet they risked their political careers by pledging allegiance to President William Ruto in Nyanza.
What led to disagreement between Owalo and Obado teams?
The team criticized Mr. Owallo saying that he was so much on the fore seeking for a cabinet slot, yet he was never seen anywhere campaigning for Ruto even in his own electoral turf-Siaya county.

“We want a leader who will unite all of us. There is no point of segmenting Kenya Kwanza leaders and supporters in Nyanza,” Odenyo said. He said the team appreciates the bold step Obado took to market Ruto despite resentment from a section of the Luo community.
They rooted for both Obado and Owalo and many others who voted for Ruto to be considered for plum Executive positions.
This comes a week after another team on Nyanza Regional Coodinators for UDA, led by Joseph Kavirondo rallied for Owallo to be appoited as CS. The team alleged that Mr. Owallo was more proactive in marketing William Ruto to the Nyanza block more than Obado.
As Ruto prepares to name his cabinet, hustle for the top executive seats continues to be a major cause for disagreement amongst members of the UDA camp in Nyanza.
