In a campaign trail in Mombasa County, Azimio chieftain has wooed the residents of the area to turn out in large numbers to vote for him as they have always done before. The Azimio presidential flag bearer Raila Odinga on Friday 5th August exuded confidence that he and his counter-part Martha Karua will win the coming election with a land-slide. This is not new because his political arch-nemesis DP William Ruto and his running mate Rigathi Gachagua have professed victory on 9th August.
Wooing his coastal region, which William Ruto is perceived to have made inroads, the ODM boss urged the residents not to despair when victory is around the corner.
Journey to Canaan
“We have walked 999kms of this journey. We are a step away from victory,” he stated.
This comes after President Uhuru Kenyatta assured Kenyans that Raila was the man to take Mwananchi to the proverbial ‘Canaan’, a journey that started back in 2017.
Making a fifth stab at the presidency, the political athlete has reaffirmed that his historic bullet is still ready to shoot in 2022. The man is facing stiff competition from Ruto, and it is clear from opinion polls that the two giants are not ready to leave the seat for the other.
The Mombasa Vote Basket Statistics
The Coastal region has an approximate 1.96 voter basket and from previous polls, Raila and his Azimio bandwagon possess approximately over 640,000 votes.
Raila assured his listeners at the public meeting that he heard their pleas and that he will free them from poverty, ignorance, disease, and corruption, and is ready to politically pounce on Ruto.

In the entourage, was his running mate Martha Karua, outgoing Mombasa County Governor Hassan Joho, Aspiring Mombasa Gubernatorial candidate Abdulswamad Nassir, and several other political leaders.
Martha’s Remarks
Martha Karua stated that the Azimio team has the best interests of Mwananchi at heart, and that the Mombasa residents should not hesitate to vote them in.
“In this election, one team is made of those who have stood for the rights of Kenyans, the other team has been sent by cartels. Let us please cast our vote for Azimio,” she asked the residents.
The DP candidate, in an apparent swipe at DP Ruto, asked leaders to respectful of those in authority.
“Many come here with insults. If someone is deputy president and you insult the president yet you want to be one, how will you expect to be respected?” Karua asked. “Let us be respectful, if it is about critiquing, do it respectfully and with good reasons. Even so, a school cannot have two headmasters.”
The running mate added that the only person that can save the economy is Raila Odinga.
