The Public Service Commission, led by Amb. Anthony M. Muchiri, has on 8th October 2022scrapped off an earlier list of candidates that were shortlisted for the positions of principal secretaries, and issued a new expanded one. This new list has a total of 585 candidates against the earlier list that had 477 names.
The earlier list was issued on 6th October, where the PSC invited the members of the public to give their views on the suitability of the candidates to psinterviews2022@public services.go.ke as part of public participation in the recruitment process, before 11th October 2022.

Information from PSC stated that a total of 9,154 applicants showed interest for the vacant positions.
Who was shortlisted?
According to Nation Africa, election losers and individuals with links to the IEBC were among the applicants that made it to the 585 shortlists.
In the list, includes members that were working in the previous administration of Uhuru Kenyatta (around 20 PSs that served in Jubilee administration, academics and parastatal heads) and President William Ruto’s advisers and political allies that have been eyeing the plum-salaried slots ever since the general election.
When are the principal secretary interviews being carried out?
Interviews with the shortlisted candidates are expected to be carried out on 12th to 22nd, before the names can be recommended to the President.

After the interviews and nomination by the president, the successful applicants will be further vetted by the national assembly, before they can officially assume office.
Nation Africa – To gain more room in the appointments, Dr Ruto is likely to bring back the position of Chief Administrative Secretary (CAS) after the PSC concluded public participation this week. The position, introduced by Mr. Kenyatta four years ago, has mostly been filled with election losers and establishment allies. Technocrats in various fields are in the list, including those who played a key role in crafting the Kenya Kwanza manifesto.

Why did PSC revise the Principal Secretary list?
The addition of 108 extra names to the list is, according to PSC, a move aimed at promoting regional and gender inclusivity.
“The commission has reviewed the number of shortlisted candidates in order to deepen inclusivity with regard to gender, the marginalized and minority groups, the youth and persons living with disabilities in accordance with Article 232 (1) (h) of the Constitution,” the PSC said in a notice on popular newspapers in the country.

The 585 contesting candidates are bidding for only 49 jobs. 536 members will miss out on appointment by the government.
