In a report filed by The Star on the 30th of July, 2022, the outgoing Mathira MP alleged that his life was in danger. In the post, the MP claimed that he noticed some certain individuals were following him around while he was in Nakuru. This report came after a campaign trail in Kapsabet where the subject and his Boss, Dr. William Samoei Ruto accused President Uhuru Kenyatta of threatening them. In the campaign trail in the Kalenjin land, Ruto asked Uhuru to spare the lives of his Kids, and Hon. Rigathi on the other hand insinuated that Mama Ngina, was responsible for the death of J.M. Kariuki who was a formidable leader before his demise.
When did it start?
On 2nd August, Mr. Gachagua revealed how strange people tried to access the room he was using in Nakuru. It was then that the UDA running mate Rigathi Gachagua decided to trigger an alarm with fresh allegations that his life was in danger.
The lawmaker was invited to an interview where he explained that he has never been in good terms with the state, and that time an again, he has been harassed by his own government.
I have been a subject of harassment by the state for the last four years. Since I became running mate, the state has intensified surveillance on me and my family.

The MP had previously said the same, while in the deputy presidential debate with Martha Karua. The leader alleged that he had a total net worth of Ksh.800 million, including the Ksh.200 million that was later confiscated by court, as they were classified as proceeds of corruption.

A day after Mr. Rigathi cried out that his life was in danger, the unknown individuals trailed him to his room demanding access.
“When I spent a night in Nakuru on Friday, there were strange people who were asking for me. They came before I checked into my room where they wanted access but they were denied, and at night, I heard some fellows hovering in the corridors. When I came out, they disappeared,” he explained.

On Sunday, Uhuru denied claims of machinations to eliminate anyone. He further explained that he was used to politicians tainting his name for the last four years.
Gachagua is among three of Ruto’s allies that have claimed that their lives are in danger. These claims were propelled following a meeting in Nakuru where the president allegedly said that Ndindi Nyoro (Kiharu MP), Moses Kuria (Gatundu South MP) and Ruto ‘will know that he is president’ –as extracted from the-star.co.ke.
“There is no need of telling people that I want to kill you. Haven’t you insulted me for three years? Has anyone touched you?” Uhuru reiterated.
